Last Friday March 6, Victoria Lara and other 14 amazing leaders were celebrated as outstanding role models for girls in our community at the Power of the Purse event hosted by Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest.
Along talented local designers, the chosen leaders had the challenge of creating a purse to be auctioned to raise money. The funds will help Girls Inc. continue their programs to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold.
And what an event it was! I’ve been to a lot of community and charity events and I have to give props to Girls Inc. because Power of the Purse is definitely one of the more exciting ones I’ve had that chance to attend to. Who said saving the world can’t be fun, right? There was food, music, pink cosmos, the most delicious macaroons ever, and non-stop cheers. But more importantly there was encouragement and bravery, there were passionate speeches, there were dreams, there was change!
I just want to say I felt so proud to see so much diversity at the event! Both the purse-o-nalities and the girl councils display a beautiful array of people!
Victoria’s speech was everything! “It doesn’t matter where you come from, it doesn’t matter if you have a heavy accent, you can achieve anything you want!”
The bag that represented Victoria, designed by the talented Javier Sanchez from Camposanto Leather Goods, was sold at the auction at the incredible sum of $3,000 by Stacey Simpson, VP of Finance at Cambia. THANK YOU STACEY!
I can’t stop writing this blog in hyperbole! It was just an amazing event!
All that is left is to thank Alexia, our beautiful girl council. Thank our amazing donors who help us fill the bag with more than $2,000 worth of items! To thank Stacey Simpson again for her charity. To thank Javier Sanchez for his talent. And to thank Girls. Inc for all the amazing work they do and for let us be part of their 10 year celebration!
To end I just have to say: “You go girls!”
