I just had the chance to watch “The Theory of Everything”, a movie about Stephen Hawking and Jane Wide’s life. I thought it was a wonderfully honest study of how even the most brilliant scientist of our era had to beat the odds when everything seemed to be against him. Watching the film I learned that Intelligence is not about how much one knows.
“Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” – Stephen Hawking
He or she who adapts is the smarter person on Earth.
The dictionary says: To adapt is to make (something) suitable for a new use or purpose, including things, behaviors, our body, our heart, our mind, our life…
To adapt is not an attitude of defeat. Quite the contrary! It’s a strong, powerful, committed, faithful, and passionate attitude that fuels our mission and transform into success. A smart person takes whatever life throws at him/her (challenges, sickness, the dead of someone we love, failures, injustice, opportunities, experiences, love) and “transforms it” into something valuable.
Adapting requires knowing the difference between the things we can’t control (a lot) and the ones we can work on. In order to produce a positive outcome we need to let go of our resistance to change. Hawking is an amazing example of adaptation.
Be intelligent and extraordinary today, we all can do it! …If we adapt.
