With the holiday season approaching, we often get busy with work, projects, and shopping for the holidays, we lose sight of being grateful and forget to act with kindness. Last week the LMS team discussed the meaning behind gratitude and volunteering, and how individually we should act with kindness with those around us. We looked at Seth Godin’s post What Matters Now and the importance of acting with kindness. Seth Godin’s post explained that when you do a kind gesture, even a small one, we can make a big difference in someone’s life.

At the dinner table or when everyone is gathering around the living room, bring up the idea that everyone should go around and share what they are grateful for, and how their act of kindness has influenced others. For example you can start a conversation with family members about how acting with kindness can create joy and appreciation in each other’s lives, and the impact it creates on others, especially during this holiday season.

So during this Thanksgiving weekend, when playing football or watching TV, think about adding a new tradition that involves volunteering in the community. There are many great opportunities to volunteer this week in the Portland area, both during Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season as well. Check out our list below to see where you can volunteer.

Start thinking of others, instead of being absorbed in your busy lifestyle and you will begin to see a change.
