My name is Ana Linares, I am the new intern here at Lara Media Services. I just graduated this year from a small private school, De La Salle North Catholic in North Portland. Where minorities are the majority and the Latino population is increasing rapidly. As a student I had the opportunity to intern at Providence Health Plans in Beaverton for three years and Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center in Hillsboro one year. Wanting to pursue a career in the medical field it had been wonderful experiences because I got to work in the actual field and behind closed doors and build many relationships with my co-workers.
I have always been one to enjoy learning new things and taking advantage of coming opportunities. When my economics teacher told me Lara Media Services was looking for an intern and gave me the information and requirements I was very happy I met them all. Always taking part of many school and community events seemed to make it easier for me to want to apply to an agency dedicated to helping the community.
Now a couple of weeks into my internship here at Lara Media, I can honestly say it has been a one of a kind experience. From the welcoming staff, small and big tasks like filling important documents to organizing a supply cabinet, and attending events like the 2013 Employment & Business Fair. I have learned many things that will help me in the future and simply the opportunity of saying I interned at Lara Media will be good. I’m excited to see what the future brings for me because being here at Lara Media has helped me realize that I could do so much more for my fellow Latino community.
