On November 20th was Mexican Revolution Day, a day that is known as a celebration in Mexico, but throughout this celebration many people are not aware of a group of women who had a significant role in the Mexican Revolution. These ladies were known as Las Adelitas, the name was inspired by a lady named Adela Velarde Perez, a nurse who was from Ciudad Juarez.
Las Adelitas were wives of the revolutionaries, and played an important part of the revolution. They would take food to their husbands on the battleground, and many of them would be messengers during the war. Las Adelitas played many roles during the revolution, including being spies, journalist, prepared meals, cleaned up the campsites, and transported the soldiers to different zones. Their bravery was what made them stand out and become iconic figures during the Mexican Revolution.

Las Adelitas, mujeres revolucionarias y aguerridas. Ejemplo de Audacia, valentía, compromiso a sus ideales, y altruismo puro. Estas mujeres lucharon en el frente desde el año 1900. A mucho orgullo siendo de Chihuahua, les rendimos un homenaje muy sencillo pero con respeto y profunda admiración. No puedo imaginarme todos los obstáculos, los chismes y las precarias condiciones que estas valientes mujeres enfrentaron. Definitivamente son un orgullo hispano. Ojalá que las mujeres de el siglo 21 podamos luchar por la igualdad de los derechos y la justicia social con las ganas, la pasión y el coraje con que estas mujeres lo hicieron. Tenemos que luchar cada día por ser mejores, tenemos que unirnos a la causa y con valentía trabajar para seguir sus pasos y crear oportunidades no solo en el presente pero para las generaciones futuras de mujeres Latinas, que al igual que ellas llevamos en la sangre el orgullo, la fe y la fuerza de nuestra herencia.
