If you don’t, you definitely should!
Metro is a great government organization in Portland that does so much for the city. Besides overseeing the Oregon Zoo and the Oregon Convention Center, they are in charge of the city’s waste disposal, of managing regional parks, and they coordinate the growth of the metro area. They are pretty amazing!
In their efforts to make Portland better, more beautiful and cleaner, they’ve partnered with Lara Media to help them reach out to the Latino community and invite us to participate in Portland’s never-ending quest to be a green city.
All this year we have been going to community evens to talk to families about the importance of recycling and how to do it. Through games we teach children where every type of garbage goes, and we talk to parents about easy ways to start recycling. We encourage people to leave their cars behind and to start walking and biking, as well as teaching families how to dispose of hazardous materials.
Check out these quick recycling tips:
- When separating your garbage, remember that paper, plastic and metals can go together.
- Glass goes in a separate container, never mix glass with paper, plastic, or metal.
- Don’t recycle plastic bags.
- Never dispose toxic trash down the sink! Take hazardous materials like pesticides, batteries, motor oil, fluorescent bulbs or medical sharps to one of Metro’s hazardous waste facilities
- And remember to walk, bike or take public transportation to get around the city and help our environment.
