This week my 9 year son gave me an assignment to fill out for one of his classes. One simple question was: “What is your favorite thing about Halloween?” My answer was: “The magic of creativity”, yet by yesterday I realized it is really so much more… as I ended up spending hours fixing and creating “Boba Fett” last night.
Cutting, sewing, transforming an incomplete, too big t-shirt into the “magical Boba Fett outfit”…. my back was hurting, I was exhausted. But when I saw the image of my son reflected in the mirror; that look filled with happiness and awe, the same look I had when my mom created amazing costumes for me right there in Chihuahua every Halloween, I knew somehow, that anything was possible. Yes, that magic is real, nothing can stop you when you work hard and do it with love.
My mom sews much better than me of course, but it’s the sense of working and creating possibilities, the sense of power of being able to provide, the gift of creativity, it was rooted in my soul. “Gracias Mama te quiero mucho” it was all worth it! The magic has started being passed to a new generation.
